Lecco Lake

The highlights of Lecco and its province are the two uninterrupted mountain chains, the Grigne and Resegone groups, and the branch of Lake Como, which is linked to the memory of Manzoni. It is a land of lakes and mountains that offer memorable scenery, sports and ancient traditions.

Almost like a Nordic fjord, from Lecco the lake offers a fascinating view of sheer rocks and sparse vegetation. The picturesque towns reflect their colours in the dark blue waters of the deepest lake in Europe.

Centuries-old abbeys sit atop the silent green gorges on the banks. There are many spots that attract tourists who, on foot or by boat, can enjoy the marvellous panoramas this area offers. The lake is also synonymous with water sports, including sailing and windsurfing and there are many prestigious regattas held here.

Admiring the white sails against the blue water from the natural balconies of the Grigne or Resegone heights is a breathtaking experience. On these heights, equipped with paths by the CAI for excursionists and lovers of beautiful panoramas, spring is announced by the crocus shooting up in the under wood and autumn by the odour of mushrooms and walnuts.

For those interested in cultural events there are the picturesque folklore manifestations with their "Firlinfeu", folk music groups who play a typical wind instrument; The Manzoni itineraries in Lecco, a pleasant town at the foot of Resegone, enrich the tourists' and students' mornings, as do the villas and castles of the Alta Lario, including the Villa Monastero in Varenna and the Castello di Vezio.
