Como

Como and the Lariano area are a splendid part of that very special Lombardy with its wonderful landscape and history. Here, nature and inhabited areas intermingle in a setting of villas and parks suspended on the shores of the lake that was dear to Manzoni. Many tourists from all over Europe come to Como and the surrounding area for a holiday or a visit.

There are walks along the shore, boat trips, art shows, open-air sports, a coffee in the piazza and food and wine of excellent quality. There is no limit to the interesting activities and trips!

Como is a city of ancient Roman origin whose monuments sum up two thousand years of the history of architecture.

It is the city of silk and of commerce. It is the main town in a Province that extends in several direction: to the north along the Via Regina, which dates back to the Lungobard Teolinda, by the numerous mountain paths or along the shore of lake Como, perhaps on one of the modern hydrofoils that silently cross the lake; to the south is green Brianza, the king of hand-made furniture; to the west are the Larian mountains and their valleys, where Fogazzaro set his most famous novel, Malombra; and finally to the east is the western branch of Lake Como, which has always been famous for its aristocratic and upper middle class visitors.

The shores of the lakes and the slopes of the mountains reflected in the water are full of Romanesque constructions, some triumphantly exhibited, like Santa Maria del Tiglio in Gravedona, or else hidden, like the abbey of San Benedetto in Val Perlana.

From the point of view of activities, the area has much to offer: sports include hang-gliding on Cornizzolo to the numerous sailing clubs on the lake: there is an embarrassment of choices. Those who choose an excursion or a visit have at their disposition the most beautiful villas of Bellagio, Cernobbio and the many other localities that surround the lake. They often host cultural and artistic events of an international level. Sailing, quality shopping, shows and quality gastronomy: this is Como and its lake, a place of postcard beauty and events not to be missed.
